A beautiful and highly innovative cinematic portrait of the revered artist, philosopher, writer and “radical humanist” John Berger, The Seasons in Quincy is the result of a project undertaken by some of Berger’s closest friends and collaborators, including Tilda Swinton and Colin MacCabe. The four film essays – pitched as seasonal chapters - explore his life and work in the remote Alpine village of Quincy, where Berger moved to from London in the 1970s, working together ideas from his writings with the atmosphere and history of his mountain home. Each film is created as an individual work of art, exploring themes from Berger’s work that cover animal consciousness and philosophical approaches to farming and the countryside, to political discussion surrounding the relationship between the past and present.
"An impressively high-minded documentary about writer John Berger [...] As a collection, The Seasons in Quincy is an absolutely inspired way of approaching its subject." —The Guardian
