Escaping post-war Europe, visionary architect László Toth (Oscar-winner Adrien Brody, The Pianist) arrives in America to rebuild his life, his work, and his marriage to his wife Erzsébet (Felicity Jones) after being forced apart during wartime by shifting borders and regimes. On his own in a strange new country, László settles in Pennsylvania, where the wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce) recognizes his talent for building. But power and legacy come at a heavy cost...
This monumental drama from Brady Corbet (The Childhood of a Leader, Vox Lux) is an electrifying study of immigration and post-war assimilation in 20th century America, evocatively shot on 70mm film and richly drawn in a way that fully earns its expansive run time.
Premiering at the 2024 Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim, The Brutalist is already being placed in the heights of the great movie masterpieces alongside The Godfather and Citizen Kane...
