The Florida Project is a vibrant and poignant tale of childhood wonder and resilience set against the backdrop of a struggling community near Disney World. The film follows six-year-old Moonee, an adventurous and mischievous girl, as she spends her summer exploring the pastel-coloured motels where she lives with her young, free-spirited mother, Halley.

Through Moonee's eyes, the world is full of magic and possibility, even as the adults around her face the harsh realities of poverty. With the caring motel manager Bobby (played by Willem Dafoe) offering quiet support, this beautifully shot film captures the innocence of childhood and the strength of human connection in the face of adversity.

Directed by Sean Baker (Anora), The Florida Project is a touching and unflinching celebration of joy, love, and resilience amidst life’s struggles.

The Young Programmers chose The Florida Project to screen alongside Boy for the Return to Youth film festival, as they parallel the eyes of boys and girls.

Please be aware this event will start promptly with an introduction by the Young Programmers and a screening of short film Twins in Paradise by Victoria Vincent (AKA vewn).
