Family Time: The Little Mermaid PG
To mark the start of Black History Month, Family Time presents the latest adaptation of The Little Mermaid led by rising star Halle Bailey.
The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
As a musician, Halle Bailey rose to prominence as Beyonce’s musical protégé as part of pop duo Chloe x Halle with her older sister, signing a record contract at the age of just 16 and starring in TV sitcom Grown-ish at the age of 18.
According to director Rob Marshall, Halle was the first person to audition for the role of Ariel and set the bar so high that the hundreds of other candidates could not compete.
The first Family Time of Black History Month shines a light on this rising star who was praised for her performance in bringing this classic cartoon into the 21st century with her stunning vocals and endless charm.
The Little Mermaid is rated PG, as it contains mild threat. For fans of Cinderella, Luca, and Ponyo.
