Showroom Cinema’s Béla Tarr retrospective concludes with a special one-off 35mm screening of 2007’s The Man from London.
After witnessing a crime during his night shift as railway switchman near the docks, a man finds a briefcase full of money. While he and his family step up their living standards, others start looking for the disappeared case.
“The camera is quintessential Tarr: hovering in anticipation of things that won't happen, tracking like a private eye tailing a perp, and imbuing the black-and-white image with a caustic malaise no other director comes near to achieving.” - Chris Chang, Film Comment.
