From Academy Award nominated and BAFTA-award winning British-Palestinian director, Farah Nabulsi, The Teacher follows a Palestinian school teacher (Saleh Bakri, The Blue Caftan) who struggles to reconcile his risky commitment to political resistance with his emotional support for one of his students and the chance of a new relationship with a volunteer worker (Imogen Poots, 28 Weeks Later).
Shot on location in 2022, this critically acclaimed drama has been praised for its intimate exploration of daily life in Palestine.
Sheffield's Cinema Palestino started in 2009 with screenings around the 29th November, The UN International Day of solidarity with the Palestinian people. Cinema Palestino is now an annual feature at Showroom Cinema. With the key purpose to ensure a showing in the North of England of a Palestinian film, with less than 3% of films in the UK coming from the global south.
This screening will be followed by a discussion with Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign and members of the local Palestinian community, discussing their experiences and questions raised by the film.
