Tim's Vermeer

Tim’s Vermeer is a documentary about Tim Jennison’s efforts to duplicate the painting techniques, and eventually a painting, of Johannes Vermeer in order to test his theory that Vermeer painted with optical devices given that Vermeer’s paintings are often cited as having a photographic quality to them.

Post screening discussion with Nadia Mehdi

Following the film we will discuss what makes a piece of art valuable, whether a conclusive discovery that Vermeer was found to use optical devices in his work would serve to aesthetically disvalue the works and why it is that we value original artworks over forgeries.
