In 1999, Lowe and his climbing partner were killed in an avalanche in the Himalayas, their remains were only discovered in 2016 after seventeen years buried beneath the snow and ice. Lowe’s death sent shock-waves through the climbing community, but his family struggled to process their own very personal sorrow. In this documentary, Max Lowe explores his father’s legacy through candid interviews, archive footage and home videos. Torn is a moving portrait of a family’s grief and resilience, set against the high-stakes world of professional mountain climbing.
