Meet: Urban Entertainment

Posted 26 May 2015 about Urban Entertainment.

Workstation tenant Urban Entertainment was founded to specialise in outdoor cinema, drive in cinema and pop up cinema and also provide screens for a variety of events. We had a chat with company director Michael Hayes to find out more.

"We started about 5 years ago in Sheffield. We wanted to create a mobile cinema experience that could be used in any location, which led to us using the Airscreens. Over the last few years we’ve got involved in some really great local projects – Sensoria, Doc/Fest. We have about seven staff and technicians but it’s just me in the office. Kristian at Moors Creative has just done our website for us, which I’m really pleased with.

I actually won this office space at the MADE festival for six months, and I’m still here! It’s perfect for us as it’s so central – we have clients coming up from London and they can just walk here from the station.

We work with a wide range of clients, from local councils to charities to sports clubs. This involves drive-in cinemas, pop-up events. This summer alone we’ll be doing about 100 screenings in the UK, from small private screenings to big events. A lot of people come to us for the screens – they’re an inflatable screen with a theatrical-grade screen surface, and we use the best projectors to give a really high-quality film experience. We can go to places with films that no-one else can.

We’ve got some big plans for the future – we’ve got international projects on the go and we’re doing a lot of audio/visual work – gigs and musical events. It’s a really exciting time for us."
