A selection of the best walking and hiking films.

1. Walking Towards Pain 29 minutes

   Ani, a 26 year old Muslim hiker with Lupus, embarks on her first ever mountain hike. With the uncertainty of how much pain her body will be in during the hike combined with not knowing how long her recovery period post-hike will be, Ani had been too scared to hike a mountain for many years. Now, in 2022, she decided for her birthday that it was the right time, and she chose Helvellyn to be the mountain. This film documents not only the hike challenge itself, but also the 2 week period in recovery to show the impact that the hike had on Ani's body.

2. Kang Yatse - Hiking Blind 17 minutes

   Two best friends (one sighted and one blind) take on their biggest challenge ever. Will Kang Yatse II (6250m) be their highest mountain ever?

3. The Pennine Way 44 minutes

   Fredi is not your typical 54 year old South Asian hiker. She's a football coach, gas engineer and plumber, and with very little hiking experience, takes on the 268 mile Pennine Way for her 55th birthday. Sharing almost all of the 24 days that she was on the trail with old friends that she's known for several decades (not least because they could read a map) Fredi shows the unfiltered joy of hiking this historic trail until her adventure is abruptly halted by a family tragedy, one day before her 55th birthday. This film is a lens into the experience of someone from the city who has never seen these rugged and beautiful parts of England, and how grief becomes a part of that experience.

   Note that this session will screen in accessible formats for d/Deaf and blind/partially sighted audiences. "Kang Yatse - Hiking Blind" will have Audio Description (with film audio) playing through the cinema sound system and open captions on screen. "The Pennine Way" and "Walking Towards Pain" will have Audio Description (with film audio) accessible via headsets (please make sure to pick up a headset upon arrival) and open captions on screen.
