It’s that time of year again; there’s a chill in the air, cinnamon in our hot drinks, and new students in town. At Showroom Cinema, we have a stacked programme of films and events to welcome the new arrivals. Plus, our much-loved CINE 26 membership scheme keeps costs within a student’s budget!

New releases hitting the big screen include The Substance, a body horror that skewers industry beauty standards starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley (20 September); Megalopolis - Francis Ford Coppola’s controversial epic, led by Adam Driver and Grace VanderWaal (27 September), and Joker: Folie a Deux, the musical re-imagining of Batman’s nemesis, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga (4 October).
 
Showroom hosts special preview screenings of Saoirse Ronan’s rehab drama The Outrun on Monday 23 September, with film champions Reclaim the Frame, and Aubrey Plaza time travel comedy My Old Ass on 24 September in partnership with MASSIVE. There’s also a 9.30am showing of Joker: Folie a Deux, fans first chance to see the sequel, at a‘ Breakfast Club’ screening on Friday 4 October, with a later ‘night owl’ screening that night.  
 
If you’d rather see something comforting and familiar, catch the full, extended editions of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, screening from Friday 20 September with a marathon 12-and-a-half hour screening on Sunday 22 September. For the film buffs, Chinese film festival Odyssey collaborates to bring beloved Hong-Kong romance Chungking Express back on Tuesday 24 September.
 
Social events include Ali Plumb’s Untitled Film Quiz Project on Friday 27 September, hosted by Radio 1’s chief film critic, and Showroom Café Bar’s own popular Film Quiz hosts a Freshers Special on 4 October. Other events include The Words Are Coming, a new spoken word open mic night launching 1 October, celebrations for Mean Girls Day on 3 October followed by crafts hosted female film club Film Girls Galore, and a Cinema Palestino screening of The Teacher on Saturday 5th October, followed by a discussion.
