Transformations Project:

Call for moving image artist

‘Transformations’ is a partnership project between Showroom Workstation and Music in the Round marking two important centenaries that reshaped the economic and cultural landscape of Britain for decades to come – the birth of one of Britain’s greatest composers, Benjamin Britten, and the discovery of stainless steel right here in Sheffield. Bringing together Britten’s work with moving image and archive film, this innovative project will synthesise these art forms to create new and completely unique pieces.

On Saturday 11 May at the Showroom Cinema all the elements of the project will be brought together for a performance which will be simultaneously streamed in cinemas across the country.

For one of the elements of the evening’s performance, the Showroom Workstation seeks to commission an artist working in moving image to create a new piece of work, approximately 15 minutes in length, in response to a musical stimulus.

Working in collaboration with oboist Adrian Wilson the filmmaker will create a piece of moving image art to be performed alongside a live performance by Adrian Wilson of Britten’s ‘Six Metamorphoses after Ovid’. The piece will then go on to form part of the Music in the Round live tour 2013/14 and will be offered to other arts venues in recorded format.

The closing date for applications is Friday 15 February
