Boyz N The Hood 15
25 years on from its original release, Boyz n the Hood returns to our screens. Causing a huge stir back in 1991, the film is an honest and challenging portrayal of inner-city life which has become one of the cornerstones of modern black cinema.
Violence was attributed to the film’s opening by the press, but the film also garnered rave reviews, with director John Singleton receiving Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Screenwriter. Singleton proved that a movie with no white major characters could appeal to all audiences of all colours.
