Best films of 2024 return to Showroom screens

In the strange interim between Christmas and New Year, we have some time to take stock of what’s really important: all the amazing films we’ve seen this year. Here at Showroom Cinema, we’ve selected a few of our favourites - the ones that have made us laugh, cry and everything in between.

So, this frosty December, come out of hibernation for a couple of hours and snuggle down in our screens to catch up on what 2024 has had to offer!

On Friday 20th December, we kick off the season with the spellbinding and heartbreaking All of Us Strangers, which follows Adam (Andrew Scott), a screenwriter who strikes up an uneasy yet intimate acquaintance with his mysterious neighbour Harry (Paul Mescal).

Emma Stone won best actress at the Oscars this year for starring in Yorgos Lanthimos’s comedy-drama Poor Things. It tells the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Poor Things returns to screens from Saturday 21st December.

On Boxing Day, director Wim Wenders (Wings of Desire) returns with his next narrative masterpiece, Perfect Days, which was nominated for Best International Feature at this year's Academy Awards. A great life-affirming film to close out the year.

A British archaeologist (Josh O’Connor), mourning a long-lost love, works with a group of grave robbers hunting ancient Etruscan treasures to sell on the black market in 1980s Italy. La Chimera also screens from Boxing Day.

The most recent film of the collection, The Outrun, returns to screens on Friday 27th December. Saoirse Ronan stars as Rona, a young woman who returns to her childhood home in the Orkney Islands after spending time in rehab, in this raw and honest exploration of addiction and mental health.

On the same date is Wilding, which tells the true story of a young couple that bets on nature for the future of their failing, four-hundred-year-old estate. Based on the best-selling book by Isabella Tree.

Closing out our Best of 2024 season from Sunday 29th December is Jonathan Glazer’s Oscar winning masterpiece, The Zone of Interest. The film follows the commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, as they build a life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.
