Rock Royalty on Screen at Showroom Cinema
Imagine; you’re sitting in a darkened room, decked out with a banging sound system, watching some of the best bands of all time play the hits. No muddy fields, no drunken mosh pits, and no one filming the whole damn thing on their phone - just exceptional performances on the big screen.
We have an amazing slate of music cinema over the next month at Showroom Cinema. From behind the scenes looks at classic bands, to some of the boldest new on-stage performances, there’s nowhere better.
It kicks off with Becoming Led Zeppelin (Directors Bernard MacMahon) on 9, 12 and 13 April. This experiential documentary offers unprecedented access to the surviving members, plus a never-before-heard interview with departed drummer John Bonham. It’s a touching moment when Page, Plant and Jones reflect on his words, and their own meteoric rise to rock stardom.
Next, One to One: John & Yoko (Directors Kevin MacDonald and Sam Rice-Edwards), with two screenings on Friday 11 April. With a wealth of material, this documentary explores eighteen months in the couple’s lives: their arrival to NYC, and a commitment to protest which lead to the One of One benefit concert, Lennon’s only full-length show post-Beatles.
Enjoy Neil Young’s return to the stage in Neil Young: Coastal (Director Daryl Hannah) on 17 and 20 April. The maverick musician is captured in unguarded closeness, by his wife and acclaimed filmmaker Hannah, playing intimate performances in breathtaking theatres across the US.
Returning to screens in 4K, with enhanced audio, there’s another chance to enjoy Pink Floyd at Pompeii - MCMLXXII (Director Adrian Maben) on 24 + 27 April. A magical performance of the prog band’s album Echoes, amidst the beautiful ruins of Pompeii, is a treat for fans and first-timers alike.
Looking ahead to May, there’s yet more treats. Björk: Cornucopia (Director
Ísold Uggadóttir), captures the celebrated artist’s groundbreaking tour that mesmerised audiences worldwide for five years. See it on 7 and 11 May.
Finally, Tall Tales (Director Jonathan Zawada) is your first chance to experience the new album by Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke, with a full-length animated visual on Thursday 8 May. Experimental in sound and visual, we’d expect nothing less from the acclaimed duo. Presented by Sheffield-founded company Warp Records.
Lights up! That’s it! For all details on dates (and potential encores) check out the special screenings page on Showroom’s site: /special-screenings
