Family Time at Showroom Cinema

Starting from 27 May, Showroom Cinema is excited to launch the new Family Time film club. This weekly film screening will take place every Saturday at 11am, welcoming all ages to experience the most beloved modern and classic cinema on the big screen in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Family Time is inspired by childhood memories of discovering a new favourite film passed down by relatives. I will never forget sitting down one afternoon to watch The Sound of Music with my mum, opening my pre-teen mind to the world of classic musicals. Or the day my dad took me to see Spirited Away, and everything I thought I knew about animated films went out the window. Sharing a film across generations is the perfect way to spend quality time with the people you love, and Family Time will give you the opportunity to do just that.

Selections for Family Time will reflect a range of tastes to take the whole family on new adventures. Kicking off the programme is the ground-breaking, Oscar-winning animated comedy Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - set in a world where humans and cartoon characters co-exist. This is followed in June by the unique gangster-musical-spoof Bugsy Malone, where all the roles are played by children wielding cream-filled “splurge guns”. Returning to the musical genre the following week, Disney’s empowering adventure Mulan will have your little ones singing and begging for martial arts lessons (sorry!).

Family Time will also offer opportunities to learn about big names in the world of cinema. To celebrate the release of his latest Asteroid City, Family Time will welcome children into the wonderful world of Wes Anderson with Fantastic Mr Fox and Isle of Dogs as part of our Wes-tival!

Heading into July, The Secret Garden takes us on a beautiful exploration of friendship in the 1993 adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s Yorkshire-set novel. By contrast, the following week showcases the talents of Jamie-Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in the iconic body-swap comedy Freaky Friday.

With tickets at £5 for all ages, and a relaxed, accessible atmosphere (including subtitles and low-level lighting), Family Time is the perfect way to introduce the kids in your life to old favourites without the distractions of home. Even if you don’t have a child to bring along, we welcome grown-ups and friends to come along and share the experience with us.
