Romola Garai’s debut film Amulet follows Tomaz, a homeless ex-soldier who receives a job offer to work as a carer for a young woman and her dying mother. Moving from London to a dilapidated and decaying house, he cannot shake his suspicions that something sinister is lurking in its corridors. First-time director, Garai offers a confident and visually striking film with Amulet, which draws upon recent female-led horror films such as The Babadook and Under the Shadow.
Expertly blending suspense, revenge and body-horror, this is a powerful tale in the midst of the #MeToo movement. A deliberately-paced dark fairy-tale, Amulet is a compelling and atmospheric story of gender and violence.
This event is screening in partnership with Celluloid Screams, and will include an exclusive Q&A with Writer-Director Romola Garai, in conversation with Celluloid Screams Festival Co-Director Polly Allen.
