Bride of Frankenstein (Philosophy) PG
Fleeing from a group of enraged villagers seeking revenge for the death of a young girl, Frankenstein’s Monster seeks refuge. On the run he meets Dr. Pretorius, Frankenstein’s former mentor and a scientist with his own ambitions of creating life from cadavers, who offers to create a mate for The Monster.
This sequel to the 1931 Frankenstein, also directed by James Whale, is often considered to be one of the greatest sequels of all time, and a masterpiece in its own right. Told from the point of view of ‘Frankenstein’ author Mary Shelley, the film further explores the moral ideas behind the classic gothic novel and further draws out themes of sexuality and gender.
This film is part of our Philosophy at Showroom series and will be introduced by a philosopher from the University of Sheffield, and followed by an opportunity to continue the discussion in our Café Bar.
