Westival: The Grand Budapest Hotel 15
Showing as part of Westival 2025
In the 1930s, the Grand Budapest Hotel is a popular European ski resort, presided over by concierge Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes). Zero, a junior lobby boy, becomes Gustave's friend and protege. Gustave prides himself on providing first-class service to the hotel's guests, including satisfying the specific needs of the many elderly women who stay there. When Gustave finds himself the recipient of a priceless painting and the chief suspect in a murder, he gets caught up in a tale of theft, greed, and hilarity, all against the backdrop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent.
The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won four, including Best Original Score. It was a word-of-mouth sensation which resulted in it being Anderson’s highest grossing film to date. Along with Fiennes, it has an all-star ensemble that includes the likes of Tony Revolori, Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody and Jude Law.
