BFI Young Film Programmer Festival: Identity and Self-Discovery

Brought to you by our BFI Film Academy Young Programmers is a double bill with a focus on identity and self-discovery! With screenings of One Cut of The Dead and Sorry to Bother You, this programme is designed to celebrate filmmakers’ identities; and discover what makes their films so recognisably theirs. For this film season, our young programmers wanted to pick films uniquely stylised to their director. Through this, their season will explore the difference between a director's personal identity versus the identity of a film, with the intention of creating an immersive experience in which audiences can question their own sense of self. With themes of surrealism, rationality, and false senses of security, this programme is sure to twist the idea of identity on it's head.

This season will take place on Wednesday 16th February, with One Cut of The Dead taking place at 3.15pm. Sorry to Bother You being screened at 5.30pm.

Statement from the Young Programmers:

Our film season is based on the theme of identity and self-discovery. Instead of choosing films that force the audience to explore their own identities, we wanted to choose films that force them to question them instead. Our films are set in an everyday world, but the experiences of characters are very far from that that many people will ever experience for themselves.
