Jodie, Saoirse and Pete at the Showroom
Showroom Cinema is bringing a wide array of special events to your screens in September, with some really special people involved. We have Pete McKee live in person, Saoirse Ronan in a recorded Q&A, and Jodie Comer’s award-winning performance back on Sheffield screens.
Jodie Comer’s (Killing Eve) Olivier and Tony Award-winning performance in Suzie Miller’s gripping one-woman play returns to Showroom Cinema. Prima Facie was originally released in 2022 and broke multiple box office records to become the most watched NT Live of all time. We’re thrilled to share Jodie Comer’s multi award-winning performance with audiences once again.
Prima Facie follows Tessa (Comer), a young, brilliant barrister. She has worked her way up from working class origins to be at the top of her game; defending; cross examining and winning. An unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof and morals diverge. Prima Facie takes us to the heart of where emotion and experience collide with the rules of the game.
Our slate of complex, female-centred stories continues with a special preview of The Outrun, starring Saoirse Ronan. The screening will feature an introduction from Reclaim the Frame and a pre-recorded Q&A with Saoirse Ronan and director Nora Fingscheidt.
The Outrun focuses on Rona (Ronan), fresh out of rehab, who returns to the wild Orkney Islands after more than a decade away. As she reconnects with the dramatic landscape where she grew up, memories of her childhood merge with the more recent challenging events that have set her on the path to recovery. This raw and honest film is based on the memoir of Amy Liptrot and features another show-stopping performance from Lady Bird’s Saoirse Ronan.
Showroom Cinema is proud to welcome one of Sheffield’s best-known artists and icons, Pete McKee, for this month’s edition of ‘My Favourite Films with...’
Pete will join us live on stage to chat about the films he loves, the role they have played in his life, and the influence they have had on him as an artist, before introducing a special double bill of two favourite films.
A double header of classic cinema that defined the British Mod and Two-tone movements, 1979’s Quadrophenia and 1981’s Dance Craze, these two classics of British cinema offer an electrifying evening of cinema scored by and featuring The Who, Madness, The Specials, The Beat and many more.
