Kick-Ass + BBFC 15
"How come nobody's ever tried to be a superhero?"
New York teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) takes it upon himself to clean up the mean streets wearing a green wetsuit. After receiving a severe kicking he acquires his one and only superpower - his dead nerve endings give him high tolerance to pain. Dave, aka Kick-Ass, soon becomes an internet phenomenon, but he discovers he is not alone... Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz) are doing a way better job of it than Dave. When Kick-Ass runs into trouble, the self-styled superheroes must join forces.
On its release, Kick-Ass provoked a storm of controversy for its use of extreme language and violence. This special screening of the film will be introduced by James Blatch of the British Board of Film Classification, with a post-film discussion.
This event is part of the Showcomotion Pro event series, supported by Screen Yorkshire's Film Toolkit.
The debate - what the critics said:
"A ridiculously entertaining, perfectly paced, ultra-violent cinematic rush that kicks the places other movies struggle to reach."
Empire Magazine
"Don't be fooled by the hype: This crime against cinema is twisted, cynical, and revels in the abuse of childhood"
Daily Mail
"...more energy and satire and craziness in its lycra-gloved little finger than other films have everywhere else, Kick-Ass is all pleasure and no guilt."
The Guardian
"Vaughn's movie is hollow, glazed, and not quite there, like a teenager who has spent too much time in his bedroom."
