Nitram 15
Nitram is a deeply unsettling psychological portrait of an Australian mass shooter in the events leading up to the 1996 Port Arthur Massacre. The film aims to understand why and how the atrocity happened. Nitram is a cruel nickname given to the main character in high school, played by Caleb Landry Jones. Living with his mother (Judy Davis) and father (Anthony La Paglia) in suburban Australia in the mid 1990’s we follow his family’s dysfunction and his life of isolation and frustration at never being able to fit in. That is until he unexpectedly finds a close friend in a reclusive heiress, Helen. However, when that relationship meets a tragic end, and Nitram’s loneliness and anger grows, he begins a slow decent that leads to disaster. Part of the Festival of Cannes 2021 selection.
