Pandora and the Flying Dutchman PG
The Technicolor films of Powell and Pressburger left an indelible mark on the world of cinema, and the run of A Matter of Life and Death, Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes with legendary cinematographer Jack Cardiff were particularly influential.
Showroom Cinema is proud to present a trio of Cardiff’s post-Red Shoes Technicolor works, beginning with 1951’s Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, which also features familiar P&P faces Sheila Sim (A Canterbury Tale) and Marius Goring (The Spy in Black, A Matter of Life and Death, The Red Shoes).
Albert Lewin’s lushly romantic film is a retelling of the often-told legend of the sea, featuring the stunningly glamorous Ava Gardner stars in the titular role. Her Pandora falls for the charismatic James Mason as Hendrik, a 17th-century seaman eternally condemned to sail the oceans.
Pandora and the Flying Dutchman has been lovingly restored and will be played from the 4K DCP.
