Adventure Awaits: Sheffield Adventure Film Festival Returns Bigger and Bolder for 2025

Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) is back in full force for 2025, returning to its long-standing home at Showroom Cinema from 21st to 23rd March. As part of the Sheffield Festival of the Outdoors, the festival once again brings together the best adventure films, inspiring talks, and interactive experiences—all celebrating the spirit of outdoor exploration. Expect a packed programme of films spanning climbing, running, biking, skiing, kayaking, and environmental activism, along with free panel discussions, community events, and new immersive experiences.

This year, alongside world-class screenings, audiences can step into the action with VR headsets, brave an ice-cold plunge pool, and warm up in a sauna pod. Outdoor screenings in the lead-up to ShAFF at Winter Garden, Regather Co-Operative, and Thornbridge Taproom in Bakewell will also broaden the scope of the festival. For the first time, all panel discussions and creative talks will be free, making the festival even more accessible. The sessions will explore topics ranging from sustainability in adventure sports to diversity in the outdoors. Accessibility is a key focus for this year’s festival, including a relaxed screening for parents and carers in partnership with Showroom Cinema’s Baby Kino.

One of the major highlights this year is the premiere of Here and There, a gripping new film following Sheffield’s own Tom Randall, documenting the Rab athlete’s journey to tackle the hardest off-width crack climb in the world—Berlin’s Autobahn. The wider film lineup is equally exciting. Elladj follows Canadian figure skater Elladj Baldé as he takes his artistry beyond the rink, performing breathtaking routines on wild ice. 109 Below explores the true cost of search and rescue on North America’s coldest mountain. Here, Hold My Kid takes a humorous yet personal look at two professional skiers juggling motherhood and extreme sports. Local stories are also a key feature, with The Pennine Way following Fredi Chohan’s journey along this famous British trail. As always, the Adrenaline Session promises a high-energy mix of action-packed shorts that push the limits of human endurance.

ShAFF sits at the heart of Sheffield’s Festival of the Outdoors, an annual month-long celebration in March that brings together climbers, runners, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts, reinforcing Sheffield’s reputation as The Outdoor City. Within this, ShAFF showcases the best adventure films from around the world, reflecting the energy and passion that define Sheffield’s outdoor scene.

ShAFF runs from 21-23 March 2025 at Showroom Cinema. Tickets on sale now (early booking recommended): shaff.co.uk/shaff25/tickets
