The Tale of Princess Kaguya U
The Tale of Princess Kaguya is celebrating its 10 year anniversary since the film's initial release! This Studio Ghibli animation is based on the Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, where a tiny nymph found by a bamboo cutter inside a stalk grows into a beautiful young woman.
The woman continues to grow unusually fast and, believing her to be a princess, the bamboo cutter uses gold he discovers to treat her like royalty. He relocates the woman and his family from the mountains to a mansion in the capital city where she is pursued by a stable of smitten suitors.
Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 87th Academy Awards.
Please note that the screening on Saturday 8th April will be dubbed in English, and the screening on Sunday 9th April will be in Japanese with English subtitles.
