Tehran: City of Love 12A
In a sexy voice on the telephone, a receptionist - unhappy with her weight but addicted to ice cream - seduces men she thinks wouldn’t look twice at her in real life. In revenge, her sexy alter ego stands up every single one of the dates she makes.
When a former bodybuilding champion he gets a promising young sportsman as a client, he drops everything else, including a promising acting job for an apparently well-known French director… who neither he or anyone around him has heard of before.
A singer at religious funerals is dumped by his fiancée. His friend suggests that he might have more luck singing at weddings and parties instead…
Three lonely people, each looking for love in their own ways. This is hard enough in any big city, never mind in Tehran, where individual freedoms can’t be taken for granted. The disenchanted characters’ search is subtly and gently sketched in this bittersweet tragicomedy, as they look for warmth and connection in a society that doesn’t embrace them back.
