The Castle 15
If an Englishman’s home is his castle, then such sentiment could be doubly applied to the Aussie fella. When faced with a compulsory purchase order on his house to make way for an airport expansion – in a what is clearly a case of the David and Goliath’s – Darryl Kerrigan (Michael Caton) takes on the Australian government, regardless of his own legal acumen and that of a hapless local property solicitor who agrees to help him. At the 50th annual Australian Film Institute Awards in 2008 this sympathetic comedy won Australia’s Favourite Film Award, giving some idea to the popularity of this film to local audiences.
