Spirit of Independence: Trancers (40th Anniversary) 15
Jack Deth is a hard-boiled cop in the bleak, dystopian future of Los Angeles. He's obsessed with chasing Whistler -- an evil criminal who uses powerful hypnotic powers to transform people into zombie-like creatures known as trancers. Whistler has managed to escape through time travel and is loose in 1980s L.A., looking to eliminate the ancestors of the ruling council to shape the future in his favour, but Deth is on his trail.
Utilising a time-travel technique, Jack's consciousness is sent into the body of one of his ancestors, a journalist named Phil Dethton, in 1985. In this unfamiliar era, Jack teams up with Leena, a punk rock waitress who helps Jack navigate the unfamiliar world of 1980s Los Angeles.
Trancers is one of the biggest films produced by indie studio giants, Empire Pictures and Spirit of Independence is delighted to be bringing this back to the big screen for its 40th anniversary.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with director Charles Band.
