Following Jess (Parminder Nagra) fan of Manchester United, who dreams of becoming a football star like her hero David Beckham. However, Despite her growing talent and skill her Indian parents dismiss her dream to protect her from the world and encourage their traditional path. Jess is spotted by Jules Paxton (Kiera Nightley) while practising and invites her to play for the semi-pro team and the two form a relationship based on their mutual struggle for acceptance. Jess must choose whether to hide her practise from her parents or take the traditional route laid out for her.
