Christmas and New Year at Showroom Cinema

The most wonderful time of the year is approaching, and Showroom Cinema has a packed schedule full of festive delights to help close out the year in style. Whether it is classic Christmas films, exciting new releases, special one-off screenings or musical extravaganzas, there is something for everyone this holiday season.

Our array of festive films will include classics such as: It’s A Wonderful Life, Die Hard, and The Nightmare Before Christmas, and our huge new release of the season is the future Christmas classic Wonka. This origin story following a young Willy Wonka stars Timothée Chalamet in the leading role and comes from Paul King, the director of the Paddington films.

Family Time will bring some special screenings to you this December, with the 20th anniversary of Elf screening on Saturday 2nd December, The Nightmare Before Christmas on Saturday 9th December and a wonderful screening of The Wizard of Oz on Saturday 30th December.

Our big Family Time with Santa double offering takes place on Saturday 16th December (Arthur Christmas) and Saturday 23rd December (The Muppet Christmas Carol), where your Family Time with Santa ticket includes the film, a cookie, a hot chocolate, and a special introduction to the film from Santa Claus himself. Don’t miss this wonderful experience for the whole family.

On the 16th and 17th December, Celluloid Screams presents two very special 35mm screenings of cult film Gremlins. With its Christmas lights and dusting of snow, Kingston Falls is an idyllic small town. It’s home to Billy Peltzer, a teenager who has just received an unusual present from his father with a specific set of instructions to look after the strange, furry creature known as Gizmo.

The nostalgic Powell + Pressburger season sweeps along, with British classics Black Narcissus, The Barefoot Contessa (both 1-7 Dec) and The Prince and the Showgirl (8 Dec). Moving from screen to stage, the season concludes with Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes (15-17 December).

Closing out our festive offerings, chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, an acclaimed interpreter of Wagner, conducts the first act of Walküre in Berliner Philharmoniker LIVE:New Year’s Eve Concert. Siegmundis a signature role for Jonas Kaufmann. The world-renowned tenor is passionate, radiant and combative in his portrayal of the tragic hero at the centre of a love triangle that confronts us with the emotional extremes of revenge, incest and lover’s bliss.

If you’re looking for a cosy place to stave off the dark nights and cold weather before a film, book a table in our Café Bar and try out our new menu with tasty options from local suppliers.
