HorrorCon Presents: A Clockwork Orange + Q&A with Malcolm McDowell 18
Written and directed by Stanley Kubrick, and adapted from Anthony Burgess’ deeply satirical novel of the same name, A Clockwork Orange returns to the big screen for this special one-off event in partnership with HorrorCon! Set in a dystopian future Britain, Alex DeLarge (McDowell) is the leader of a gang of “droogs”. When he is arrested after a drug-laden spree of “ultra-violence”, Alex is faced with a 14-year prison sentence; after two years, he takes up an offer for experimental aversion therapy, forced to watch scenes of sex and violence set to the music of his favourite composer, Ludwig van Beethoven. A landmark of British cinema, and one of the most controversial films ever made, A Clockwork Orange was banned in several countries and withdrawn from British cinemas at Kubrick’s behest after allegations of copycat violence. This is a rare opportunity to catch this striking and provocative film on the big screen once again!
We are delighted to be partnering with HorrorCon for this event, who will be welcoming Malcolm McDowell for a Q&A before the screening. Broadcaster and journalist Tony Earnshaw will be hosting this event.
