When her estranged rabbi father dies suddenly, New York based photographer Ronit Krushka (Rachel Weisz) returns home to London, and the Orthodox Jewish community that turned its back on her years earlier for her attraction to a female childhood friend. Her reunion with this friend reignites powerful emotions, and the two explore their sexuality, and the limits of their faith, in this moving drama from Sebastián Lelio (A Fantastic Woman). Anchored by terrific performances from Weisz, Rachel McAdams and Alessandro Nivola, Disobedience - an adaptation of the award winning novel by Naomi Alderman - is a striking, exquisitely made film about the pain of denying who we are, and the universal need for human connection, fulfilment and belonging.
