Return to Oz (Philosophy) PG
The misunderstood yet beloved cult classic follow-up to The Wizard of Oz has bewildered, confused and delighted audiences in equal measure for almost 40 years, and now returns to the big screen as part of the Philosophy at Showroom series.
The sole directorial credit of legendary editor and sound designer Walter Murch (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, The English Patient), the film finds young Dorothy Gale (played by a pre-The Craft Fairuza Balk) back in Oz, although things aren't as she left them.
The yellow brick road is all broken, and her old friends the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man have been turned to stone. Now, Dorothy and her new friends Tik Tok, a helpful robot, Jack, who has a pumpkin head, and Gump set out on a new adventure to save the Emerald City from the evil Princess Mombi and the fiendish Nome King.
This film is part of our Philosophy at Showroom series and will be introduced by a philosopher from the University of Sheffield, and followed by an opportunity to continue the discussion in our Café Bar.
