Spirit of Independence: Saturday Only 15
This is a ticket for the Saturday only of the Spirit of Independence festival.
Spirit of Independence is a celebration of micro-budget film-making, offering independent film-makers from around the world an opportunity to get their films shown on the big-screen.
The fourth annual Spirit of Independence Film Festival takes place on Saturday 1st October 2022. We are very excited that, for the first time, this year’s festival will take place at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.
As well as a diverse and unique mix of films from all corners of the globe, the 2022 festival will feature fringe events, including a showcase of films made in and around the South Yorkshire region and industry-based talks led by key figures in the movie-making community.
The Spirit of Independence Film Festival will also be premiering a new short film made by the winner of its 2022 Emerging Spirit script-writing competition, Ciara O’Rourke named Dead Skin. Festival-goers will also have the chance to hear from and even meet some of the directors of the festivals selected films.
The festival will open Friday evening with the European premiere of Bernard Rose’s (Candyman, Paperhouse) new film, Traveling Light, and we're delighted to announce Bernard will be joining us for a Q & A on his career and shooting his new film set over 24 hours during the pandemic.
Saturday will see features and shorts from seven different countries including the UK premiere of disturbing Spanish, viral horror The Winter Hunger. From the US you’ll be able to see the contemporary thriller, Northern Shade where a disenchanted army vet takes on a local militia group to save his brother, the hauntingly beautiful In Times of Rain from Mexico and the true-indie spirited relationship drama Kate & Jake from the UK. The Spirit of Independence Film Festival will also feature some fantastic animated short films and to headline an animated feature made right here in Sheffield, Absolute Denial.
