In one of Morocco’s oldest medinas, Halim and Mina run a highly regarded caftan store. In order to keep up with the demands of their impatient customers, the married couple hire a young apprentice named Youssef. His attentive presence as he dedicates himself to mastering his craft forces Halim to confront his repressed homosexual desires. Working beside them, caring wife Mina must also come to terms with the truth of their marriage and the real meaning of love.
The Blue Caftan is an understated, poetic romance that is woven throughout with stolen glances and hidden meaning. Maryam Touzani’s follow up to 2019’s Adam was the official Moroccan selection for the 2023 Oscars.
