A group of German workers start a tough building job in rural Bulgaria. Unwelcome, the men are interlopers in someone else’s territory; cornered by local people that view them with contempt. One of the German men - an ex-soldier named Meinhard - begins to befriend some of the locals, sending tensions rippling through the village.
An enigmatic study of nationalism, masculinity and community, built on the foundations of a classic Western but brought right into contemporary Eastern Europe.
