Kaijuly Raids Again!

In the wintry mountains of Japan, a corrupt Lord kidnaps peasants of a nearby village, forcing them to toil in the treacherous sulphur mines. A band of young boys decide to rescue their enslaved fathers, aided by a violent divine spirit trapped inside a colossal statue.

Wrath of Daimajin sets itself far apart from other Kaiju contemporaries with a snow-laden samurai-era setting focusing on corrupt lords and an underclass uprising. The titular divine spirt Daimajin, meaning ‘Giant Demon God’, is a colossal living statue capable of defeating entire armies in a single swipe and crushing impenetrable forces beneath its stone boot. The creature is more often referred to as a Kaijin, the ‘jin’ referencing the creature’s human appearance.

We’re very excited to show Wrath of Daimajin as part of our second-year celebration of all things Kaiju. Strangely, period piece Kaiju films are still a rarity. The stunning mountain landscape photography, and unique creature design make this a must watch for fans of the genre.

Showing as part of KaiJuly, a season of films celebrating Japan’s giant monsters, to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Gamera – the Giant Monster.
