Do You Own The Dancefloor? + Q&A 15
Do You Own
the Dancefloor? is a
documentary that tells the story of the iconic Hacienda nightclub in
Manchester, which closed its doors for the last time in 1997. The film focuses
on an auction held in 2000, where 69 lots from the club, including bricks,
toilets, and pieces of the dancefloor, were sold off.
The auction was not just a sale of memorabilia
but also a means to raise money for charity. The documentary captures the
journey of these items and the stories of the people who bought them,
preserving a piece of the club’s history. It’s a nostalgic look at a venue that
was central to the UK’s music scene, particularly during the rise of acid house
and rave culture.
Screening almost 27 years since the closure of the infamous club on 28th June 1997, and 9 years since the documentary first premiered at Glastonbury Festival, this special screening will raise funds for Cancer Research UK and be accompanied by a Q&A with director Chris Hughes.
