The Peasants (or Chłopi) tells the story of Jagna, a young woman determined to forge her own path within the confines of the late 19th century Polish village of Lipce, a hotbed of gossip and on-going feuds.
The community is held together by pride in their land, adherence to colourful traditions, and a deep-rooted patriarchy.
When Jagna finds herself caught between the conflicting desires of the village’s richest farmer, his eldest son and other leading men of the community, her resistance puts her on a tragic collision course with the community around her.
From the directors of Loving Vincent, this stunning historical drama is rendered in awe-inspiring hand painted animation inspired by traditional and modernist Polish artwork. Over 100 oil painters worked on the project, which took them over 200,000 hours to complete; creating a work of beauty not to be missed on the big screen.
