I’M FINE (Thanks for Asking) follows a day in the life of recently widowed hairdresser Danny. Left houseless Danny and her 8-year old daughter Wes live in a tent, under the guise of camping for fun. Danny is under mounting pressure to secure the deposit for an apartment by the end of the day. Ready for the challenge with a series of clients lined up, endless determination and roller skates as her only means of transportation. Danny still struggles to catch a break, as we follow her on a race against the clock, hurdling over the many barriers that stand in her way to securing a home for her family.

Made under lockdown restrictions, the film’s crew also star in acting roles, with Kelley Kali serving as co-writer, co-director, co-producer, as well as giving an incredible performance in the starring role as Danny. Exploring the present-day realities of homelessness and the gig economy, I’M FINE (Thanks For Asking) serves as an energising tale of determination, and of the lengths a mother will go to, to keep a promise to her child. With wonderful scenes of Danny roller-skating across Los Angeles, chasing the freedom and independence she so longs for.
